Я поехал в Ванзее. В смысле, на Виллу Марлир. Сначала на S-Bann до станции... правильно, Ванзее; затем примерно 15 минут на автобусе 114. Автобус ходит каждые 10 минут с чисто немецкой аккуратностью (которая, как потом выяснилось, больше не распространяется на железные дороги).

В Ванзее из центра на метро добираться с полчаса где-то, причём поверху, поэтому мне посчастливилось посмотреть пригороды Берлина («частный сектор», так сказать). Очень симпатично. Хотя домики-курятники (типа тех, которые в России строят на шести сотках небогатые граждане) тут тоже имеются. Что любопытно, сплошь со спутниковыми тарелками.

Вилла Марлир (в которой в 1942 году прошла печально знаменитая Ванзейская конференция) расположена по адресу Am Großen Wannsee 56-58. Но с улицы оно практически незаметно даже в феврале – почти полностью закрыто деревьями. Мне было холодно и голодно (из-за перенесённой в 2014 году операции я вынужден питаться «по часам»).

Пришлось зайти в роскошный ресторан Сан-Суси («без забот», то есть) рядом с виллой Марлир (соседний дом, на самом деле). Что даёт вполне однозначное представление о реальном отношении немцев к Холокосту, Ванзейской конференции и так далее. Кстати, ресторан не единственный - есть ещё один, прямо у ограды виллы Марлир (только намного попроще).

Сел за столик на четыре персоны, накрытый белоснежнейшей скатертью, заказал свежевыжатый апельсиновый сок, свежевыловленную (прямо из озера за окном) рыбу неизвестного мне вида (как потом оказалось, очень вкусного) с картошкой и зелёным шпинатом, зелёный чай...

За окном умиротворяющую красоту озера созерцал огромный каменный Лев. У организатора конференции шефа РСХА Рейнгарда Гейдриха со вкусом было всё очень и очень хорошо (что было общеизвестно) , так что место он выбрал красивейшее. И с очень мягкой и комфортной энергетикой. Сплошной мир и покой, никаких волнений (владельцы ресторана дали ему очень точное название).

Вилла оказалась на удивление небольшой – много меньше показанной в фильме ВВС "Заговор" 2001 года (хоть и не без серьёзных неточностей, но, пожалуй, лучшего об этом событии). И очень даже живой. Более того, живым порталом... неизвестно куда (я мистик, поэтому я такое вижу).

По вилле взад-вперёд сновали (невидимые никому кроме меня, да и посетителей не было... почти) какие-то малопонятные сущности в фельдграу СС, серой униформе СС-Хельферин и прочей нацистской униформе. Периодически то исчезая в «ином измерении», то возвращаясь обратно.

Более всего происходящее было похоже на весьма деловой улей. Ни разу не растревоженный, напротив, очень даже деловой. «Организованный хаос» (говорят, и СС, и вообще весь Третий рейх так и работали). Ни малейшего внимания на меня сущности не обращали, что меня не могло не радовать.

Чем они занимались (и зачем) мне было решительно непонятно. Но атмосфера была деловой, целеустремлённой, спокойной и даже комфортной. Что было очень и очень странно, учитывая, какие решения были приняты в этом самом здании почти восемь десятилетий назад...

After writing two books on business management, one non-fiction history book, one self-help, one alternative medicine and twelve fiction books (with one more waiting to be assembled from completed pieces), I firmly decided to stick to writing non-fiction history books… pretty much for the rest of my life (I am 58).

My training and experience in knowledge management allows me to write quality books on just about any topic in history, so I put together a list of 100 books that I intend to write.

Every book will be written in “blog format” – any topic in X facts, where X can be anywhere from 100 to 1,000. Each fact will be up to 2,500 words long and will tell a separate story. A collection of facts (sections) will tell the story of a chapter and a collection of chapters will tell the story of a book.

I chose “Wannsee Conference in 100 facts” as a pilot project for a number of reasons. First, I am very well familiar with subject matter (history of the Third Reich and the Holocaust are my key competencies as a historian).

Second, this book (because of “… in 100 Facts”) is relatively short; consequently, it will be written in a month or so – which is very important for a pilot project. Third, although the Holocaust was researched very extensively, the Wannsee Conference is still an enigma; consequently, this book will be in high demand (also very important for a pilot project in a series of books).

And, finally, every writer (of fiction and non-fiction) always writes the book that he/she wants to read but can not find – and I am no exception. I was always interested in the enigma of Wannsee Conference and always wanted to find the book that would provide all knowledge that I needed… but could not find any.

I intend to make this book not just the best book on Wannsee Conference (otherwise, why write it at all?) but the best book on the Holocaust in existence – until I write “Holocaust in 1000 Facts”, of course. Why? Because no book (1) gives answers to all key questions about the Holocaust; and (2) is written in an easy-to-read (and digest) “blog format”.

This book is based mostly on my own research on Wannsee Conference and the Holocaust that I conducted for my fiction books written in my native language.

Где-то там парковались машины участников Ванзейской конференции. В отличие от советских бонз (НКВД, партии, правительства и так далее) автопарк нацистских функционеров был весьма скромным. А шеф гестапо Мюллер так и вообще прибыл в одной машине (причем отнюдь не представительского класса) с председателем имперского народного уголовного суда (!!) Роландом Фрейслером (Фряйслером, на самом деле)

From the legal perspective, Wannsee Conference was criminal conspiracy to commit mass murder. Serial mass murder (in this case, genocide), to be more precise. Cut and dry, plain and simple, loud and clear. Consequently, any book on Wannsee Conference is (inevitably) a criminal investigation. Homicide investigation, to be more precise.

I have neither any kind of training nor experience in criminal investigation – to my knowledge, none of the authors of any other book on that event does. Still, I am confident that I am perfectly qualified to write this book.

I am perfectly qualified because every criminal investigation is a knowledge management project. More specifically, knowledge mining project. Its objective is to mine (extract) knowledge about the individual(s) who committed the crime (and the crime itself, of course) from a pile of raw data and information.

More specifically, detectives working on a homicide case must (1) collect all relevant raw data and information – relevant being the key word; (2) extract the necessary knowledge from them; (3) structure this knowledge in the most efficient and digestible way; and (4) present this knowledge to judge and jury to prove the culpability of the defendant beyond the reasonable doubt.

Criminal profilers working on a criminal case must (1) collect all relevant raw data and information – relevant being the key word; (2) extract the necessary knowledge from them; (3) structure this knowledge in the most efficient and digestible way; and (4) present this knowledge – about the perpetrator and a victim – to homicide detectives (and subsequently to judge and jury).

Hence, both are the jobs for the knowledge management professional. Which is exactly my key area of expertise. Knowledge management tools, methods and technologies are applicable to any and every subject matter – and criminal investigation is no exception.

So I am, indeed, perfectly qualified to write this book – much more qualified than any other author (because none of them has knowledge on experience in knowledge management).

The latter becomes immediately evident to reader of every book on Wannsee Conference – or just about any history book for that matter.

This book is popular history, not academic history (the latter, frankly, is unbelievably boring). However, it is comprehensive, well-researched and provides answers to all questions about Wannsee Conference (and to the key questions about the Holocaust).

Hence, it will be very useful and highly valuable to anyone studying (students from B.A. to Ph. D. programs), teaching or professionally researching history of the Holocaust – and of the Third Reich (with or without doctorate degrees), to everyone for whom this history is a hobby… in short, to everyone interested (professionally or otherwise) in history of the Holocaust and of the Third Reich.
